W.I.P 10th/11th Century Viking Sword

This is our latest work in progress. This is going to be a late 10th century Viking style sword suitable for reenactment fighting.

The blade is going to be made out of EN45 steel which will be heat treated and tempered as a normal sword would, but instead of profile grinding in a sharp edge, the edges will just be reduced and left between 3-5mm thick. We are currently in the stock removal phase of works aiming to get a rough profile cut and ground before forging.

The overall specification will be a 760mm long blade, 50mm wide at the hilt tapering to 25mm at the tip. There will be a full tang construction which will be hidden within a wooden handle bound with leather. Pommel and Crossguard will be steel.
